Abstract

In 2004, the APEC forum will turn 15 years old. The members of the forum, initially made up of 12 countries, have increased in number with the so-called economies that comprise it, as well as in the level of political influence, the depth of the economic program and the ambitiousness of its goals. This article describes and evaluates the APEC process in one of its two traditional pillars, the liberalization and facilitation of trade and investment, and especially international trade issues. In particular, we are interested in analyzing your approach to Free Trade Agreements (FTA). The subject of FTAs is also analyzed from the perspective of trade strategies as the centerpiece of economic policies in Northeast Asia, and the relationship of FTAs with the regional political economy.
